Inflating lettering: now vs 2023

Alright, here’s an unpopular opinion 😵🔫
Theorists will tell you that as a designer, you need to be well-versed in art history, know the ins and outs of various fonts, and have top-notch drawing skills. Sure, these skills can be useful in design and might even enhance a project, but are they really fundamental?
In my 18 years of experience, I’ve found that a designer’s true value lies in their ability to solve problems effectively by crafting the most fitting solution for the brand or client. The key is to pinpoint which solution resonates best within a specific context, evoking that desired ‘emotional response’.
With ai on the scene, designers no longer need to focus on mastering reproduction techniques. Instead, they transition from ‘creating’ a design to ‘choosing’ a design. This shift not only saves resources but also opens up the field to those who previously felt excluded because they couldn’t wield a pencil. Design is becoming more accessible; it’s no longer a requirement to spend years in a university or college – even a youngster can jump into design.
Technology is driving the evolution of design. The sooner every designer recognises and embraces this shift, the better equipped they’ll be.
To create this reel, I’ve used a video from the incredibly talented Ian Barnard
